
Although the downtown area is now a nucleus for excitement, it was not always such a cheery place. In 1855, many downtown buildings were destroyed by the first of several fires to strike the town. Existing buildings today were rebuilt starting in 1860 and date from that time to 1930. A downtown revitalization continues to take place in Statesville and includes more than 110 building renovations since those fires.
